TUTORIAL: Absentee Voting
Service members can vote by mail while living away from their voting residence.
Register to vote and request a ballot in one easy step.
Complete the Federal Postcard Application (FPCA) at https://www.fvap.gov and mail it to your election office.
Check your registration deadline at https://www.fvap.gov/guide for the next election based on your state. For the general election, it is preferable to send the FPCA before August 1st.
Your voting residence (the US state or territory where you register to vote) is likely your legal residence.
Determine your voting residence at https://www.fvap.gov/military-voter/voting-residence.
Using the FPCA guarantees that your state will send you your ballot at least 45 days before the election—not guaranteed protection when using other forms. It’s a good idea to send a new FPCA every January and every time you move house.
