South Okanagan Women in Need Society gears up for biggest fundraiser of the year – Penticton News

Help keep women and children safe

The South Okanagan Women in Need Society is gearing up for its biggest fundraising event of the year, Share the Spirit of Giving.

SOWINS offers a variety of services for local women and children who face abuse and violence.

The annual campaign allows SOWINS supporters to help in a variety of ways, including making direct donations, sponsoring a family or building a backpack for someone homeless during the holidays.

“There are many ways to give to brighten the holiday season for women, youth and children who need our support this holiday season,” says Danielle Goulden, CEO of SOWINS.

“Rising costs for groceries and goods will prove more difficult for many of the women and families we serve.”

In 2021, the campaign connected nearly 100 families in need with local sponsors and provided more than 50 backpacks to those in need on the streets, while raising much-needed funds to support the work of the organization throughout the year.

“We have a few new ways to get involved this year, including having a Spirit Tree in your business to encourage customers, clients, members or patients to get involved in giving or becoming a Partner in Hope this season. parties with a minimum donation of $1,000 or higher,” said Marni Adams, Fund Development Advisor at SOWINS.

“The community is really supportive of this campaign, local businesses and individual supporters, which is always amazing to see. We hope to rally the same support this year with the current economic climate to ensure that women and families in need in the South Okanagan are having a happy holiday season. We couldn’t do this without the support of the community,” said Goulden.
