The thrift store celebrates its 50th anniversary | New
LANCASTER – Antelope Valley Hospital’s New to You thrift store celebrated its 50th anniversary with a grand reopening ceremony on Monday morning, celebrated by the Antelope Valley Chambers of Commerce.
Entirely made up of volunteers, the thrift store has been supporting the auxiliaries of the Antelope Valley Hospital since 1971. All operations directly benefit the hospital and its patients.
“Fifty years is a lot of years and I want to thank the helper and all the volunteers,” said AV Hospital CEO Ed Mirzabegian. “You know, their work has brought the hospital over four million dollars and has done a lot of good things for the hospital and the community and everyone else who is involved with us.
Donations helped pay for items such as intensive care beds, lifting equipment, ultrasound machines, and emergency carts.
The thrift store helps residents find used or donated items at discounted prices. Donors can drop off new and lightly used items to support the Antelope Valley community; the store accepts fashion accessories, footwear, household items, crafts and a variety of clothing items. However, it does not accept large furniture, mattresses, used pillows, computers, televisions, monitors, photocopiers or fax machines.
Thrift store manager Annette Grimes thanked the volunteers who work at the store.
“Their work, their efforts, I really love them,” said Grimes. “They’ve put a lot of work into this business, and to have come this far is amazing.”
The thrift store was previously on Avenue I. It has been in its new location for about two years. The store has been opened and opened for the past year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Assistant President Harriet Lee said she donated more than $ 4.5 million to the hospital. She thanked the hospital administration for their support.
“When you give something new to you, you know you are donating something to the hospital,” Lee said.
The store, located at 44256 10th Street West, is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. In honor of its golden anniversary, the store is offering a 50% discount on sale through Friday.
